  Kingdom Hall Renovation Question: Who Pays?

  so last night it was announced at the local hall that the ldc had decided against building a new hall, and that the existing hall would be "renovated.

  the prospect of a new hall has been dangled before this congregation for at least 10 years now.

  in fact, the congregation had already purchased property, had approval from the rbc for a new hall.

  Thanks for the letter and chart WIFI.

  It seems like this congregation falls into the "congregation should be given the opportunity to care for the expenses first" class.

  Just some background on the congregation: Although located in a fairly well-off area, pretty much everyone in the cong. is broke (big surprise). Also, about a year before the LDC arrangement was instituted, an elderly brother passed away leaving $250K to the congregation. At the time, this was viewed as a "blessing from Jehovah" because it was just the amount needed to get the new KH project started. I think few if any of "the friends" know that all of that money went to the society under the "new arrangement."

  Here's my prediction as to what will happen: The congregation will be told that they are responsible for the entire cost of the project and that the $250K they thought they had in the bank is GONE. There will be no way this congregation will be able to ante up 100s of thousands of dollars required for the project. The LDC will then proclaim that "Jehovah's will" has been revealed by the congregations lack of interest in the project. The congregations using the hall will be disbanded and sent to nearby halls, and the hall and property will be sold off.

  I'll keep you all informed on what actually happens. . . .

  You know. . . . I'm not really hearing this so much any more. Yeah, some are salivating over Trump/King of the North/King of the South bullshit, but I more often hear people accepting that they might actually grow old and die "in this system."

  For instance: I was talking with a young witness woman (in her 40s) the other day. She and her husband are remodeling their home and were considering materials for the kitchen. She related to me that her JW father/elder advised her not to use a certain material "since it only lasts 20 or 30 years" and that "time goes fast." Her response to him was "You think I'm going to be around to care in 30 years?"

  So first it was interesting for the JW dad to even think you have to worry about how long your new kitchen will last with armageddon "right around the corner." Secondly, it was really interesting to hear someone in their 40s already resigned to the idea they would grow old and die rather than waltz right into "paradise" without ever facing death. These kind of attitudes were unheard of -- even kind of considered apostate -- just 10 + years ago.

  People are still "in" but their attitudes have changed dramatically.

  The prospect of a new hall has been dangled before this congregation for at least 10 years now. In fact, the congregation had already purchased property, had approval from the RBC for a new hall. . . .. and then everything changed (the RBC was dissolved and the LDC was instituted).

  My wife says there was an audible *GASP* when this was announced --- everyone had been expecting a new KH. Evidently, there was quite some disappointment that all this will amount to is merely the renovation of a small, outdated building from the 60s.

  My question is: Who foots the bill for the renovation? Does the LDC pay for this? Or is the congregation expected to ante up?

  I remember seeing somewhere on this board that some congregation (I'm assuming in the USA) was supposed to pay at least half of the cost of renovation "up front" under the new LDC arrangement. Unfortunately I can't find the post I was thinking of . .. . .

  As for Adams and Larson, I did not forget them. Just didn't include them because of the non-anointed thing.
